Cristina Magro

Head of Coaching CAPSLOCK

BIOGRAPHY

I am a Career and Personal development Coach specialized in working with Cybersecurity professionals. I have an MA in Coaching and Mentoring Practice from Oxford Brookes University (Oxford, UK) and my research on ‘impostor syndrome and coaching’ has recently been published by the International Journal of Coaching and mentoring Practice. I am a professional member of the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC) and of the Association for Coaching (AC).

I have a background in cybersecurity myself, having started my cyber career working for SANS Institute and having taken two GIAC certifications through them (GISF and GSLC). Since 2019, through my private practice, I have been coaching cybersecurity leaders from different countries helping them in their career transitions into higher roles, to different companies, or into entrepreneurship. In addition to my private practice, I am also Head of Coaching for CAPSLOCK Cyber Education where I coach new talent entering into the industry.

Finally, I regularly offer training and workshops on a variety of personal development and leadership topics and deliver keynote speeches at cybersecurity conferences.

Overcoming impostor syndrome in cybersecurity

Whenever I mention “impostor syndrome”, most people understand exactly what I am talking about, even without having ever read a definition of it! And in fact, surveys show how 68% of people working in IT have experienced impostor syndrome in the past 12 months.

In our industry, we are very familiar with the feeling of not being good enough, not belonging, having to hide. Impostor syndrome can have serious consequences on an individual mental health and therefore deserves consideration.

In this talk we will explore:

– what impostor syndrome is exactly,

– why you might be experiencing it,

– how we can overcome it.
