See the news, meet the speakers, explore the DefCamp 2024 workshops!
DefCamp’s mission is to advance and promote cybersecurity knowledge and innovation by bringing together experts, enthusiasts, and organizations to collaborate, share insights, and address current and emerging cyber threats. Through the conference, the workshops, and the Hacking Village competitions, DefCamp aims to foster a culture of proactive defense, encourage skill development, and raise awareness of cybersecurity challenges. Its focus is on educating individuals, driving security research, and empowering the global cybersecurity community.
The current cybersecurity landscape is increasingly complex, with growing threats from sophisticated ransomware attacks, data breaches, and state-sponsored cyber espionage, as organizations race to enhance their defenses using advanced technologies like AI, zero trust architectures, and cloud-based security solutions to protect sensitive data and critical infrastructure.
DefCamp 2024 promises to tackle all these challenges and more on stage with experienced infosec experts ready to showcase their knowledge and share with the community their insights!
See who’s speaking!
Thrilled to have on stage once again Chris Kubecka presenting The Matrix Reloaded: Quantum Computing and the Redefinition of Cyberwarfare, a talk about the intricacies of modern cyber warfare, using real-world examples from recent conflicts such as Armenia/Azerbaijan and Ukraine, where cyber operations have reshaped the battlefield. Drawing from her personal experiences in Ukraine, the discussion will highlight specific incidents like the deployment of wiper malware targeting critical infrastructure and the ensuing cybersecurity challenges.
On the other side, we are very happy to welcome on stage Robert Sell, founder of Trace Labs Organization who organizes crowd sourced OSINT for locating missing persons. He will take us on a journey that first outlines the many different faces an insider threat can have: everything from accidental to espionage. He then discusses how to detect it and what companies can do about it.
Last but not least, we will get the chance to learn on stage how AI can be used in cybersecurity. Marek Zmyslowski and Konrad Jędrzejczyk will share a presentation that explores the darker uses of AI in cyber offense, revealing how AI can be twisted for complex cyber attacks and deceptive strategies. They will dive into the ethical implications and the blurred lines between defense and aggression in AI’s role. Join us for an eye-opening look into AI’s potential for unconventional cyber strategies and the crucial discussion on ethical boundaries in AI technology.
Of course this is just a glimpse of what you’ll get to see on stage at DefCamp this year, if you’re curious to see more, feel free to check the speaker’s list.
What’s happening with your application to represent Romania at the Global Cybersecurity Camp (GCC) in 2025?
We’ve been impressed by the large number of applicants that want to represent Romania at the Global Cybersecurity Camp in 2025! It’s amazing to see so many young people interested and passionate about cybersecurity that we are confident to find the right talents for this initiative.
The names of the selected students that will attend the GCC in Taiwan in 2025 will be announced in just a matter of days!
“Why did DefCamp choose to collaborate with the GCC team” you ask? Well, take the following for example:
- The market for future cybersecurity talent in Romania is growing rapidly, driven by the increasing digital transformation of businesses, government, and infrastructure across the region. Romania has become a notable hub for IT and cybersecurity services in Europe, with demand for skilled professionals outpacing supply. As cyber threats continue to evolve, organizations across industries – particularly in finance, telecommunications, and technology – are seeking qualified cybersecurity experts to secure their digital assets, comply with regulatory standards, and respond to an expanding range of cyber risks.
- The Romanian government has recognized cybersecurity as a strategic priority, implementing initiatives to foster local talent and establish Romania as a regional leader in cybersecurity. Collaborations between academic institutions, private companies, and initiatives like UNbreakable Romania or even us at DefCamp are helping train and inspire the next generation of cybersecurity experts. Universities and technical schools have started offering specialized programs and courses, while CTF competitions hosted on CyberEDU allow students and young professionals to gain hands-on experience in such a dynamic environment.
- Given the global shortage of cybersecurity professionals and Romania’s growing IT ecosystem, future cybersecurity talent in Romania has significant career potential. With competitive salaries, opportunities for advancement, and the chance to work on impactful projects, Romania is poised to offer a strong, supportive environment for individuals looking to build a career in cybersecurity. This market is expected to grow as companies continue to prioritize cybersecurity as a core component of their operations and risk management strategies, making Romania an increasingly attractive destination for both talent development and cybersecurity investments.
So, plenty of reasons to help young talents in Romania learn from global friends and grow by connecting with inspiring, smart people who can truly make a difference in their journey forward. If you’d like to join in and support them, drop us a message!
