As digital transformation accelerates, cybersecurity has become a cornerstone of business resilience. We spoke with Florin Popa, Orange Business Director, about how Orange Romania is shaping the future of ICT and cybersecurity through innovation, partnerships, and education.

From the launch of SCUT, the newest cybersecurity company in Romania, to the importance of collaboration within the infosec community, Florin shares insights on how organizations can stay secure and adaptable in an increasingly complex digital world.
Orange Romania has been driving digital transformation for many companies. How do you see ICT solutions evolving to meet the future needs of enterprises, and what role does Orange play in helping businesses adapt?
At Orange Business, we believe the next wave of digital transformation will be about integration, resilience, and AI. Companies no longer look for isolated ICT services – they want end-to-end ecosystems that combine connectivity, cloud, data, and cybersecurity under a single, trusted partner.
Orange Romania has built one of the most extensive telecom infrastructures in the country, covering everything from mobile and fixed internet to IoT networks and data centers. This infrastructure allows us to support the critical operations of thousands of organizations. But beyond infrastructure, our focus is on helping businesses evolve securely, ensuring their digital backbone is both scalable and protected. This is the exact reason why we lunched SCUT – a dedicated company for cybersecurity, co-created with Orange Cyberdefense.
As businesses increasingly rely on digital solutions, cybersecurity becomes critical. How does Orange approach cybersecurity for its enterprise clients, and what are the main challenges you see today?
Cybersecurity is no longer a separate layer – it’s an integral part of digital transformation. This is the role of SCUT – it completes Orange Romania’s business ecosystem by bringing advanced protection to the entire IT infrastructure – from mobile devices and networks to cloud and applications.
Our approach combines local expertise with the global experience of Orange Cyberdefense, the European leader in cybersecurity. Together, we offer visibility across systems, rapid detection, and coordinated incident response – helping companies reduce downtime and maintain digital trust.
Orange has a presence in the tech and cybersecurity ecosystem. How important is collaboration with the infosec community for Orange, and what initiatives or partnerships have been most impactful?
Collaboration is fundamental. Cybersecurity cannot exist in isolation – it thrives through knowledge-sharing, education, and partnerships. We’ve been working closely with our business partners and various educational initiatives, as we strongly believe in fostering collaboration across sectors.

From your perspective, how does participating in events like DefCamp benefit both the companies and the wider cybersecurity community?
DefCamp is one of the most important cybersecurity gatherings in the region. It connects experts, companies, and students who share a common goal: making the digital world safer. For Orange, it’s a valuable opportunity to exchange knowledge, showcase innovation, and listen to the community’s real-world challenges. Events like this help us stay aligned with the evolving needs of both businesses and cybersecurity professionals.
Looking ahead, what emerging cybersecurity threats or trends do you think businesses should prepare for, and how is Orange helping them stay ahead?
We’re seeing a clear shift toward AI-driven attacks, supply chain vulnerabilities, and hybrid threats that combine digital and physical components. At the same time, organizations are expanding their digital footprints, which increases their exposure. This is why we focus on resilience planning. I also think prevention is part of the equation – so companies should focus more on this.
For professionals or students looking to build a career in cybersecurity and digital transformation, what advice would you give, and how can they leverage communities like DefCamp to grow?
At Orange, we’ve been investing for years in educational initiatives that encourage young people to pursue cybersecurity careers. The opportunities are vast – from ethical hacking to risk management and AI security – and the demand is only growing.
Cybersecurity is a fast-evolving field that needs curious minds and continuous learners. My advice is to combine technical knowledge with an understanding of business. Participate in events like DefCamp, join CTFs, take part in educational programs, and build networks with peers and mentors.
Such insightful perspectives from Florin remind us that true digital progress comes from blending innovation, security, and collaboration.
You’ll find Orange Business at DefCamp 2025: in the technical tracks, business panels, and at our booth, where you can meet the team and explore the future of cybersecurity together.
